i needed to get out of town for a few days and hadn’t seen my kiddos since easter, so i made my way over to nashville for the weekend for a quick change of scenery.

i timed it to arrive just after millie’s birthday party, got to catch up quickly with the malanchuks and love on baby ruby, and then went to see catherine, drew, and everett while lindsay took a nap. when i got back to the house we sent steve and the girls to the titans-patriots preseason game and then lindsay, benny, and i took ourselves out for tacos and margaritas. after giving benny a bath and a bottle and getting him settled lindso and i spent a few hours chatting and catching up while she folded laundry. once steve got back we got the girls cleaned up and read a few stories and got them settled in for the night, had a little spurt of adult time, and then hit the sack ourselves.

on sunday, millie’s actual 4th birthday, we went out to breakfast, got a few presents, went for a spin in the bike park, and then opened more presents. i snuck out while the girls were getting settled in for lunch and hit the road back to memphis.

my visits to nashville are only ever about 24 hours long, but they’re always exactly what i need i love those hugheses and wrights so much and always love having some time to just catch up with them and be a part of their everyday lives. as i told will collie last week, all i have to do is show up and they tell me where to go and what to do. it’s kind of the perfect arrangement.

other highlights included: tuesday night steak night with pat turns / dinner and puzzle night with chris and jessi / a long overdue dinner with curtis / friday lunch with the parents / dinner with kevin before he heads back to school
