veen on the road: upstate adventures with jeremy.

jeremy came to visit for labor day weekend, and we treated ourselves to an upstate adventure that included exploring some cute towns, a delicious dinner, and a beautiful hike and time spent outdoors.

here are our highlights, if you’d like to see!

hudson.

i picked jeremy up from the airport and we hit the road straight to hudson. we grabbed food at talbott & arding before wandering up and down warren street. when the mood struck we ducked into a store, but mostly we enjoyed the people watching and the scenery. i especially loved spotty dog books & ale, an old firehouse turned bookshop and pub that is super cute and cozy.

we wrapped up our visit with a decadent dinner at the maker hotel where we spent the whole time marveling at the decor and the food and pretending to be super fancy and then made a quick stop at culture cream for a scoop of sorbet. pro tip: make a reservation for the maker

kaaterskill falls + inspiration point hike.

one of the main reasons we wanted to spend some time upstate was to go for a hike, so after a lovely stay at our airbnb we made our way over to hike kaaterskill falls to inspiration point. the roughly 4.5-mile loop was really nice, and although we didn’t hike down to the bottom of the falls we had a great time and enjoyed the scenery along the way. there were a few spots where we weren’t sure which way to go, and i was very grateful to have the all trails app to keep us on course. we passed a few people along the way, but when we finished a lot of people were setting out; by the time we got back to the parking lot it was packed and there was a line of cars looking for spots. pro tips: go early to get a parking spot and to beat the rush / make sure to carry water with you / i highly recommend using the all trails app to make sure you’re following the correct trail as in a few spots it’s confusing on which way to go

woodstock.

we were hungry after our hike and drove over to harana market outside woodstock to get some food. after inhaling our lunch we drove into woodstock and went for a stroll up and down the main street to see what was happening. there were a lot of people out and about enjoying the great weather and the holiday weekend, so we just took a quick turn before getting on the road back to the city.

this was my first upstate adventure since moving in february, but it certainly won’t be my last. on the drive back i was already plotting when i could get away for a hike and a wander next.

xx
