marvelous memphis: earnestine & hazel’s.

where do i even start when talking about earnestine & hazel’s? is it the fact that it’s a former brothel? that the jukebox is haunted? do i talk about having our 10-year college reunion there? or about the “secret” bar upstairs? or about how the soul burgers are some of the best food you’ll eat in the city?

regardless of where i begin, the end result is always that earnestine & hazel’s is one of the most quintessentially memphis spots and i love it. i’ve been going there for 20 years and aside from a few minor renovations it looks remarkably as it did the first time i set foot in there as an undergrad. there’s something comforting about that.

if you find yourself in downtown memphis go to earnestine & hazel’s for the drinks, stay for the soul burger, and strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you at the bar. i promise you won’t be disappointed.
