3rd space arts, formerly young arts patrons, is introducing a lot of new initiatives and programs to uplift and empower local artists and creatives. the team behind the awesome memphis design week is now introducing quarterly live crowdfunding events, and jen and i went to the first one last week.

the idea is pretty simple: artists apply for micro-grants to help spread the word about what they are working on. 3rd space selects 3-4 finalists to receive the grants. those who attend the crowdfunding event pay $10, all of which goes into a pool that is split between the grantees, and get to hear directly from the artists about their projects and how the money will be used. and even if you can’t make the event, you can still contribute to the pot of money.

at last week’s live crowdfund we got to hear from kady roxz, timothy ‘urban thoughts‘ moore, and adam from the quark theatre. all three shared about the work they are doing, why they are passionate about it, and how the 3rd space grant will help them spread their work to more and more people.

it was really cool to hear directly from the artists how this money will be used and to be able to meet the people our money was impacting. i look forward to attending more of these in the future.

other highlights included: from where i stand program at the halloran centre / two days of free lunch at work / lunch with kaché / got my hairs cut / picked up some holiday decor at target / lunch date with alex / couch time with chris and jessi
happy thanksgiving week!
