this last friday the grizzlies played the jazz, and it was mike conley’s first game back in memphis since being traded over the summer. my mother was out of town, so i was in need of a date for the game. i have a rotation of people i invite to join me when my mother can’t make it, but then i had a revelation: lindsay and steve and family would be coming in town for our reunion weekend, so perhaps i could take evelyn with me. she’s six and at an age that i trust both of us to go on an outing together and not get into too much trouble.
i messaged lindsay and steve to ask for their thoughts, and they gave us an encouraging thumbs up. they rolled into town around 6.35 friday evening, picked me up, and dropped us both off at the forum. we made it to our seats just as they were announcing the jazz starting lineup, so we got to see conley as he was announced. during the first timeout they showed his tribute video on the big screen and i had to work really hard to not cry.
i don’t know about evelyn, but i had a blast. it was so fun to get to share that with her, and we picked up some goodies for millie and benny on our way out as well. we made it to halftime and then called steve to come pick us up, which was probably the perfect amount for us both.
hopefully we’ll have more opportunities in the future to share grizzlies games, and in a few years we can tote millie and even benny along with us.

other highlights included: lunch with corrinne while in little rock / dinner with alex and jeremy / a few quiet nights at home by myself / got to catch up with a lot of old friends at our college reunion
xx
