for all my years of elvis fandom and for all the visits i’ve made to graceland over the years, i somehow never made it to the candlelight vigil. as this year marked 40 years since elvis’ death, i knew this had to be the year i made my appearance at the vigil, and i was not disappointed.
it was amazing to see so many fans from around the world, speaking so many languages, coming together over their shared love of elvis. we met people from europe, asia, south america, and australia who came to memphis to commemorate the life and legacy of a man who was so much more than just a performer to so many people.

this was definitely an experience to remember, and one i will return to as and when i can.
xx
ps — i also wrote a recap for the ilovememphis blog, which you can read here if you are so inclined.
I’ll be honest, I never realised that Elvis meant this much to so many people… so interesting. Thank you for sharing this… he really is still a cultural icon 🙂

I grew up as a fan, but it is nothing compared to some of these people! It was definitely an experience I will never forget!
