i have been wanting to see a ballet for a few years, and i finally got my chance last week when ballet memphis performed the nutcracker at the orpheum. jane and dillard went with me, and we made an evening out of it. they had both grown up seeing the nutcracker, but i knew nothing about the show other than that it includes a sugar plum fairy.

i have to say, i was pleasantly surprised by the performance. the dancers were all very impressive, and i recognized more of the music than i expected to, which was fun. most of all, i liked supporting a local company, knowing that i was mostly watching memphians perform the show.

i am happy to have crossed this item off my list, and i loved having friends along for the show.
