india travels: making peace with delhi.

i have a bit of an up-and-down relationship with delhi. i love the history and the energy of the city, but i had a few bad experiences on previous visits that left a bitter taste in my mouth. i have always been hesitant to go back, but it was the only way i would get to see nithya before i left india, so off i went at the end of may to spend a few days with my big talker and to see if delhi and i could finally come to terms with each other.

the day i landed we took off to mussoorie for a fabulous 2.5 days in the mountains after which it was back to the city for three days before returning to bangalore. and while i am still not a huge fan of delhi, i had a great time on this visit and i think we are inching closer to being friends. the weather was great – not the norm for delhi in may – and i had the opportunity to catch up with rob, pranay, and vikki while i was in town in addition to quality time with nithya. and i managed to grab lunch with deboo, anush maushi, and anandi before they left for their trek in the mountains.

delhi and i still have a ways to go in our relationship, but as long as i’ve got friends to visit, i’m sure i’ll be back.

do you have any places you have a contentious relationship with?

xx

I totally get the contentious relationship with Delhi – I love the place, but it’s easy to see why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I had a contentious relationship with Pakistan for many years, but we’ve sorted out our issues now 😀 For me, the places that don’t agree with me are Hong Kong and Mumbai :/
