this month i’m trying out a straight chronological situation to see how we feel about it.

our grad school classmate gina recently moved to brooklyn, so one night maggie and i met her at xolo in williamsburg for dinner. they have a great margarita list [i recommend the jalapeño], and my fish tacos were very good // williamsburg, brooklyn

i felt like a new walking route one day and remembered that i hadn’t yet been to the socrates sculpture park that’s about a mile from where i live, so i took a gander over that way. it’s a nice little park right on the river, and it was cool to wander and read about the different sculptures // astoria, queens

mad café has reopened after recovering from a fire and both maggie and i are very happy. it’s such a nice space in which to get some work done, and they’ve turned the back section into a wine bar that opens after 5pm // sunnyside, queens

after a movie screening one sunday maggie and i popped over to the whitney to check out their edward hopper exhibit. it was my first visit to the museum and i really liked the hopper exhibit — i didn’t know much about him going into it and especially enjoyed learning about all the work he and his wife did to preserve the neighborhood around washington square park. there’s another exhibit on the same floor that we didn’t have time to explore that day, so i will have to return soon // chelsea, manhattan

i finally got a pork pita from the christos souvlaki food cart by my house, and it was delicious. reminded me of all the yummy street meat we ate in istanbul and only cost $6 // astoria, queens

the mighty oak roasters coffee shop right by my house recently reopened their indoor seating so i have swung by there to work a few times. the hot chocolate is good, and i appreciate that it’s close enough to pop in for even an hour or two between meetings for a change of scenery // astoria, queens

maggie invited me to be her plus-one at a reception thing at the italian consulate and we had great fun pretending to be fancy.

the grizzlies came to town so i made my first visit to barclays center. the game didn’t go how i would have liked but we had a great time and the arena is fantastic // xx, brooklyn

my friend michael texted one day to say he had bought two tickets to a guster concert happening at carnegie hall and would i like the second ticket. umm, yes, i would absolutely like to revisit my 24-year-old self and also get to see a show in this beautiful and historic venue. it was a fun show in a lovely setting and they closed with a cover of “rainbow connection” which made my night // midtown, manhattan
and honorable mention to rowdy rooster and gupshup for continuing to be delicious.
xx
