bangalore eats: dinner at cafe mezzuna.

i have been hearing good things about cafe mezzuna for a few months, so avni, gayatri, and i checked it out for one of our food adventures this month.

cafe mezzuna has gained a reputation for being an affordable place for a nice dinner out, and it certainly met our expectations. it is right on st mark’s road, but its basement location means that most of the noise and traffic is blocked, allowing for a peaceful meal in the middle of the city.

once the group of drunk teenage boys cleared out, the place was pretty quiet and peaceful, and we were able to enjoy our meal in relative silence. because the space is pretty big, we were never disturbed by other tables, and at times i forgot there were others even in the restaurant.

cafe mezzuna’s menu is pretty expansive, but we eventually decided to share the traditional mezze as a starter and then each ordered our own mains. we were also very pleasantly surprised by the drinks prices – rs 275 for a 30ml of jack daniel’s – so avni and i both ordered drinks while gayatri opted for a cappuccino.

the mezze was very good, but i would have liked more bread. there were so many different sauces and dips, but we ran out of things to dip into them. they were, however, all very tasty.

lamb chops at cafe mezzuna. bangalore, india. april 2016.

i have to say, i think we were all very impressed with our main dishes. my lamb chops were delicious, and i loved the fresh veggies that were on the side. gayatri polished off her fish, and avni proclaimed that her pizza was also very good. this was one of the few times when all three of us were completely satisfied with the meal, so i’d say that’s a big mark in mezzuna’s favour.

if you’re looking for a new place for a nice dinner that won’t break your bank, cafe mezzuna on st mark’s road is a very nice option.

the details:

location: 14, st mark’s road, shantala nagar. bangalore – 560001.

landmark: next to truffles restaurant.

serves non-veg: yes, chicken, lamb, and fish, from what i could tell.

serves drinks: yes, full bar available. and at reasonable rates.

wifi available? no.

what we ordered: traditional mezze [starter]. jack daniels 60ml; draught beer x 2; cappuccino [drinks]. smoked chicken pizza; lamb chops; pan-fried fish [mains].

our bill: just under rs 3,000. not bad with the drinks.

my zomato rating: 4 out of 5 // average rating is 4.5

to keep in mind: the outdoor space becomes quite smoky in the evenings, so i would suggest sitting inside if you go for dinner

will i go back? probably not, since i’m down to my last few weeks in bangalore, but i would if i were going to be around for longer.

xx
