field trip to malavalli.

one of the centres we are working in is in a rural town about 100km from bangalore, and i made a trip out there on monday and tuesday of this week to see how things were running and to meet with the teachers to discuss some plans for how to improve their classes.

the work visit was good, but more than that it was so nice to get out of the city for a few days. away from the traffic, away from all the incessant honking, and away from the chaos and crazy that seems to engulf me when i’m in it for too long. having grown up in the delta, sometimes i need to be out in the wide open spaces to recharge my batteries a bit.

on the bus rides to and from malavalli, and on the rides between malavalli and mandya, all i did was sit and stare. i pretended to read for a bit, but it was just too nice outside to ignore. i always forget how pretty karnataka is until i get out for one of these trips, and this was no exception.

it also reminded me that it’s time for me to get out and explore somewhere new. i have been plotting a getaway to the hills for next weekend, and i am really hoping i can make it happen. no phone, no internet, no work.

i can’t wait.

xx
