every year, usually in the fall, my parents attend a medical conference. they’re usually in cool places, and as kids i was always bummed when my brother and i weren’t invited along [“school” and whatnot]. finally, in 2013, i was unemployed at the right time and their conference was in orlando and i sweet-talked my way into joining for their trip. while they attended lectures and wandered through the expo, i spent my days exploring the magic kingdom, epcot, and universal studios. it was a blast, and while i always wanted to join them again the timing had not worked out until this year.
as luck would have it, their 2023 conference was held in washington, dc, an easy 3-hour train ride from new york, and somehow fell on the exact perfect weekend for me to be able to join them. i was able to tag along with mark and sarah for a trip to the zoo [which is free! how cool is that?]; i spent a day working in a nice coffee shop; i ran into a friend from memphis who apparently now lives in dc; i finally made it to the postal museum; and i got to spend four nights hanging with my parents.
