kaché and i have been wanting to get burgers from roxie’s grocery for years and never made it happen. it’s quite literally a 3-minute walk from our office, but for whatever reason we never did it. until last week.
i needed to go to the office* one afternoon last week to start cleaning through supplies for conference as well as going through all the stuff at my desk. kaché decided to join me so she could make her phone calls to accepted students. teal was already planning to go in most days to get some things taken care of. we convinced freddy to come, too; kaché sent a message about black restaurant week; i said i could pick up roxie’s. and thus a plan was formed.
thanks to advice from dillard, we knew to call in our order well ahead of time so that it would be ready by the time we were ready to eat. i called it in, sorted through honor cords for graduation, and then kaché and i walked over to pick it up.
we each ordered a roxie’s burger combo with everything on it, and it was maybe one of the best burgers i’ve ever had. it was cooked to perfection, and with the fries it was the exact amount of food i wanted.
if you want to eat a delicious burger and support a memphis institution, head to roxie’s the next time you are in the downtown / pinch / uptown area. i promise it’s worth it.

where: roxie’s grocery, 520 n 3rd st
what we ordered: roxie burger combo [meat, bacon, cheese, onion, lettuce, pickle, mayo, mustard, ketchup], which includes fries and a canned big k drink
cost: combo is $6.75 each plus tax
notes: call ahead if you can // there’s no seating inside, so it’s all to go // street parking available
xx
*our staff is still working remotely, but we are allowed to go to the office on an individual basis if we need to pick something up or if there is something we need to do there
