what a way to close out the final week of 2019.

chrystal and pat spent the holidays dog sitting in key largo, florida, and ever since they made the decision they have been encouraging me to join them. i knew that with a lot of trips coming up in the first half of 2020 it would be tough for me to swing it, but then they came in with the offer to split the cost of my ticket. at that point i knew they had me on the hook.

i flew down to fort lauderdale the day after christmas, and we spent the next 2.5 days exploring key largo and key west, lounging on the couch and watching football, and generally enjoying one another’s company and the glories of being on vacation with no agenda.

it was pretty much a perfect holiday. no plans and no expectations meant that everything was a fun surprise. the whole point was to spend the time together, and that’s what we did.

thank you, friends, for an amazing gift i won’t soon forget.

other highlights included: first mother-daughter grizzlies game of the season / christmas eve lunch at gus’s / family time / made a 7-year-old friend on the flight home
