here we are at the end of another year of reading. below are the ones i read in december.
the lion, the witch and the wardrobe by c.s. lewis. this is another of those “childhood classics” that i never read in my youth. i remember seeing the movie in early 2006 with the entire devaraj clan in bangalore and enjoying it, so when i stumbled across it a few months ago i picked it up on a whim. it was a quick, interesting read, and i’d like to rewatch the movie and see it come to life once again // 3.5 stars
another brooklyn by jacqueline woodson. this was one of my reading surprises this year. i can’t remember how or when i first heard about another brooklyn, but i saw it mentioned enough times that i ordered it a few months ago; i grabbed it off my shelf this month and was blown away by it. this coming-of-age story centered around four girls in 1970s brooklyn is poignant, mesmerizing, and heartwrenching. it’s a short novel, but it packs a punch, and i have been talking about it ever since i finished it // 4 stars
and with that i have completed my goal of reading 30 books in 2017! there were a few points when i wasn’t sure if i would get there, but toward the end of the year i was finishing almost a book a week and eventually made it over the hump.
currently reading: john boyne’s the heart’s invisible furies. it is fascinating.
