february was a fairly slow reading month for me, with people of the book taking me 3 weeks to finish, but i am making up for it with a few quick reads over the coming weeks. below are my thoughts on what i read this month.

people of the book by geraldine brooks. i first heard of people of the book a few years ago, but i admittedly knew nothing of the book’s subject when i picked it up to read earlier this month. i was certainly not expecting a sweeping tale that would take me back in time from war-torn sarajevo to spain during the inquisition and throughout many other important eras of european history. i learned a lot about the region and the religious persecution many of its citizens have faced over the centuries, and except for one chapter that dragged a bit, this was a captivating read // 4 stars

my own definition of a feminist is a man or a woman who says, ‘yes, there’s a problem with gender as it is today and we must fix it, we must do better.’

all of us, women and men, must do better.

we should all be feminists by chimamanda ngozi adichie. adichie packs quite a punch into 48 short pages. adapted from one of her ted talks, we should all be feminists explores how gender expectations influence our daily lives and what each of us – women and men alike – can do in our daily lives to promote the idea that women and men should be treated equally. adichie is such a prolific writer and speaker, and this quick read is one i will definitely come back to over the years // 5 stars

currently reading: i just started tim ferriss’ the four-hour workweek, and i am still making my way through dinner: a love story by jenny rosenstrach.

on my wish list: on brenna’s recommendation, i just added rebecca traister’s all the single ladies: unmarried women and the rise of an independent nation to my wish list. i also added the hidden light of objects after reading julianne’s review last week.
