this past spring a new outdoors store opened in cooper-young, and pretty soon after they announced a monthly hiking group. the timing was perfect, as i was tiring of planning a hike each month, so after conference wrapped i headed down to grivet to get some details and sign myself up.
i met kim who is in charge of organizing the hikes, and we had a great chat about her plans for the hiking group. the best parts i heard were that she would drive to and from the hikes and that there would be donuts; i was sold after that.
grivet’s first hike was in august to petit jean state park in arkansas. ten of us – eleven including kim – met at grivet on a sunday morning and hit the road to the park. upon arrival we hiked the rock house cave trail, stuffed our faces in the lodge, and then hit the cedar falls trail to check out the waterfall.
it was an awesome day. the scenery was great, the company was fun, and i was able to spend the bus ride alternating between sleeping, reading, and listening to podcasts. it was a pretty spectacular sunday funday, and i am already signed up for grivet’s next two hike offerings.

i’ve written a post for the ilovememphis blog about grivet’s hiking club and my initial impressions, which i will link to as soon as it gets published.
xx
Used to live near Little Rock, my wife and I would go to Petit Jean pretty frequently.

It was lovely. Going to Pinnacle this upcoming Sunday, which I am very excited about. Anything I should know before heading over there? Thanks for commenting!

Not really just enjoy! Pack a small backpack with snacks and drinks. Some great views, and the waterfall is definitely worth seeing.

Thanks! I am really excited — I went to grad school in LR and never hiked Pinnacle, so I am looking forward to finally making it happen. Be on the lookout for a post about it in the next few weeks.
