this weekend i am:
meeting a new friend for lunch tomorrow and then catching up with an old one whom i’ve not seen in a while. rainbow run on sunday to support the lgbtq community — i can still only walk [stupid joint pain], but it should be fun. and probably watching goldfinger at some point, as mentioned below.

interesting things from around the interwebs:
an ode to tim riggins, because he’s the best.
the 23-year-old software developer who is living in a truck parked on google’s campus. i can’t blame him for not wanting to pay san francisco rent.
time looks at the impact of china reversing its one-child policy. i remember reading during the 2012 summer olympics that china’s medal counts will decline during every games because there aren’t enough young athletes to replace the ones who are retiring.
inside the lives of afghanistan’s war widows.
scenes from the finish line at the nyc marathon. i love watching this race when i’m in the states, and one day i might try to actually run it myself. maybe.
espn recently closed down grantland [rip the lowe post podcast], so buzzfeed has put together a list of its 16 most memorable articles. i have read the friday night lights oral history article at least 7 times, and it only gets better with each read.
william goldman’s eulogy for andre the giant. because the princess bride is awesome.
amazon is opening its first ever physical book store in seattle. i’m so intrigued by this.
i want to join the andrew luck book club.
the human face of climate change.
eleven great books releasing this month. trying to remember why i’m on a book-buying ban.
the states is already getting into christmas mode [completely skipping over thanksgiving, which upsets me], so here are the best quotes from elf to get you through the day / week.
the 2016 presidential candidates ranked by how likely they are to die in office.
an in-depth interview with adele. i can’t wait for the new album to be released!
great article about how important affordable, high-quality technology is to making education accessible.
this is from a while ago, but meg [my supervisor] wrote an excellent piece about blended learning for edsurge.
jt and chris stapleton singing “tennessee whiskey” and “drink you away” at the cma awards. damn.
aziz ansari’s new show premieres on netflix next week. i know what i’ll be doing next saturday.
the 10 best bond films, ranked. pretty sure i’m going to watch goldfinger this weekend. it’s been a while.
what it’s like to work at barnes & noble. pretty accurate.
the cast of the baby-sitters club movie just had a reunion for the twentieth anniversary of the film’s release. and i just had a major flashback to my elementary / middle school years.

in case you missed it:
checking out carnival de goa a few weeks ago.

are you doing anything exciting this weekend?
xx
