indian weddings are always an adventure. depending on where you are and who is getting married they can last anywhere from 1-3 days and have multiple events. sometimes the food is served on a banana leaf, and sometimes it’s a huge buffet. sometimes there are dance performances, and sometimes the only music is instrumental. sometimes [rarely] there are barely a hundred guests, and sometimes there are thousands of people there.
i have a lot of thoughts on the wedding industrial complex in general which i will save for another day, but there’s no doubting i have gotten to attend many incredible weddings in india over the years. some have been close friends and family, and a few times i didn’t even know whose wedding it was — i was told we were going to a wedding and to be ready at a certain time and so i got myself ready because who am i to turn down a free meal and a party. there were also a few bangalore weddings we crashed because when you stumble upon a wedding celebration and have a few white people with you you’re probably going to be invited in.
each wedding i was able to attend in india was special in its own way, whether because of the people getting married or the people i attended with, and hopefully i’ll get to another one soon.
