veen on the road: a memphis sojourn.

the beginning of march was pretty rough for me, so i cashed in some miles and booked myself a trip to memphis. i needed a change of scenery, to see my family, and memphis comfort food, and my time in town was exactly what the doctor ordered. i didn’t tell a lot of people i was in town because i knew i needed to lay low and take it easy, and while i would have loved time with more of my favorite people, i’m glad i made this decision.

in the meantime, sarah plotted with caitlin, corrinne, and dillard, to drive down and surprise me for the first weekend i was in town, and i am not exaggerating when i tell you i screamed and started crying when she showed up in maciel’s on friday evening. while she was in town we stayed two night at dillard’s and then two nights at my parents’, and we had a grand time working on jigsaw puzzles, cuddling and playing with linus, and creeping on some of our old haunts. having her in town was so good for me.

i got to see mr manny twice, i saw alex at kwik chek twice, and my mother, brother, and i went to gus’s one day for lunch. i spent an afternoon reading at crosstown, i went on a lot of walks, and i caught up on sleep. i know how lucky i am to have such a special place to return to, and i am so grateful it worked out to have this visit.

xx
