a lot happened in october, and it flew by, too! we started the month with our annual jefferson awards event where i got to meet shane battier and tell him the story of how he borrowed a basketball from me 22 years ago and thank him for all the work he and his wife heidi did for memphis when they lived there. [side note: they met when they were in seventh grade. my brain still cannot comprehend this]. i also got to show my work friend sarah around the city a bit, and then i enjoyed a four-day weekend with my phone on do not disturb and my nose in a book. i spent a few days with blanche the wonder dog, got back into the swing of school visits, spent 4.5 days in dc with my parents, and enjoyed all the halloween decorations around the city.
