bangalore eats: kiran’s big apple breakfast at church street social.

church street social is well-known as a late-evening hangout, but it has quickly become one of my favourite places in the city for breakfast. with a spacious setting, bright light, and fast wifi, it’s a great place to catch up on some work or have a quick meeting in the center of the city while i stuff my face with delicious food.

social opened about 3 years ago in the center of the city, and it very quickly became one of the most popular hangouts for the 20- and 30-something crowd. the food is fantastic and the drinks prices are reasonable, and they have cultivated a reputation for their famous deconstructed cocktails.

when i first made my way to social, however, it was on a sunday afternoon to meet bettina. neither of us were bothered about drinking and instead opted for food. i have since returned once for a late lunch and twice for breakfast, and it is the early mornings that have become my favourite time to experience social.

for one thing, the space is so open and bright and welcoming. at 9.30am, when it is mostly empty, i have my pick of comfy leather chairs, benches, or tables with chairs. and for another, the wifi network has been very reliable during all of my visits. i have had google hangout calls and streamed videos with no problems, and it was especially useful when i didn’t have internets at my house.

and finally, there is the food. the breakfast options – which are served all day – cover everything you could possibly want for your morning meal. there are breakfast staples, like omelettes and eggs. there are indulgences, like blueberry pancakes and bacon. and there are indian favourites as well, like kheema bun and vada pav. there are smaller breakfasts for those who are watching their weight [read: not me], and there are breakfast combos for those of us who don’t mind splurging on breakfast goodies and skipping lunch later in the day.

i have tried and loved sid’s very posh breakfast, and on my most recent visit i opted for kiran’s big apple breakfast. both were delicious and totally worth all the extra calories. the only part i’ve not been crazy about was the white toast, so i’m thinking on my next visit i might ask them if they have the option of brown bread. otherwise, it’s all been great. i have also previously tried and enjoyed the southall fish n’ chips as well.

another great aspect to social is the opportunity they have to use it as your office. they offer a pretty great deal, in my opinion — rs 5,000 per month gets you a guaranteed spot to work, unlimited wifi, and access to a conference room for meetings or private calls. and on top of all that, you get the 5k back in food and drinks while you work. if you are a freelancer or looking for a change of scenery, it good be a pretty great place to work. on the mornings i have stepped in, it has been pretty empty, so you won’t be bothered overly much. although i won’t be partaking in that particular offer, i’m thinking i might use it as my morning office a few times a month for a change of pace. and for that delicious breakfast.

the details:

location: 1, cobalt building. 46, church street. bangalore – 560001.

landmark: across from empire on church street.

serves non-veg: yes. including real bacon!

serves drinks: yes, full bar available. they are especially known for their deconstructed cocktails.

wifi available? yep. and it’s pretty good.

what i ordered: kiran’s big apple breakfast.

my bill: rs 300, inclusive of taxes.

my zomato rating: 4.5 out of 5 // average rating is 4.3

fun facts: their offer to use the space as your office is pretty enticing: rs 5,000 gets you access to unlimited wifi as well as a conference room, and you get the money back in food and drinks. think about it. and for the drinkers out there, you can purchase quarter- and half-bottles of some of your favourite local liquors, including old monk.

to keep in mind: weekday mornings are pretty quiet, but it’s busy from about 12pm onwards, so plan your visits accordingly.

will i go back? oh yes. i’m thinking it will make a good office a few mornings a month.

what are you other favourite breakfast / morning meeting spots in the city?

xx

“meeting in the center of the city while i stuff my face with delicious food.”, I think a more appropriate phrase would be “stuff my mouth with delicious food”. But, I am not authority on proper grammar, so no worries. 🙂
Good post by the way, nice to read, it really made me hungry! 🙂
