be awesome #38: send a card. every day. for 365 days.

even if you only know a few things about me, you should know that i love snail mail. i love sending it. i love receiving it. i love writing postcards from my travels and random cards just because. i love the process of jotting down a note to someone – some of mine are only a sentence or two – sending it off, and knowing it will brighten someone’s day in 2 days to a week or so, for those farther away. writing cards is my jam.

send a card. every day. for 365 days.

you don’t have to have a reason. it doesn’t have to be a holiday. you can make every day a holiday.

so when i saw that one of kid president’s suggestions was to send a card every day for an entire year, i decided that 2018 was the year to make it happen. i always have an overstock of notecards and postcards [last year i sent my final one from my nepal trip in 2012, if that tells you anything], and i figured this would be a good way to use them up.

just a sampling of the many cards that have made their way around the world. memphis, tennessee. august 2018.

i admittedly did not write a card every single day, often waiting until the end of the week and writing 7 or 8 in one sitting, but i was pretty consistent in making sure they got written and sent. in the end i probably fell 10-20 short, but i figure sending over 300 cards to friends and family around the world is a pretty good feat. i love hearing from people that they received their cards, and i feel like i have received more handwritten notes in the process.

there is something about a handwritten note – however long – that adds a little extra happy to your day. even though my year of writing is over, i will continue to write to people in the hopes it can bring a smile to their faces.

xx

This is great! I ended up starting something similar myself recently but am tentatively just aiming for the end of the month! I’m so impressed you stuck with it for a year and sent so many! Yay for snail mail!

One year I had a lot of Christmas cards (50+ cards) so I ended up mailing all of them that year. I have a photo of a few of the cards lined up on my bookshelf in a recent blog post called, “Snail Mail, Anyone?” 💌

I personally think that mailing 365 cards is a great idea for using up your stock of cards. Did you end up sending more than one card to the same person or did you send the cards to a new person each time? 😊💕

I sent multiple cards to quite a few of my friends who are scattered throughout the world, but I also sent some to people I don’t know. And of course I accrued even more cards, so I still have plenty to continue sending. I’m such a sucker for handwritten notes!

Thank you for your comment, and I hope you have a wonderful week 🙂
